On my journey exploring the social sites that might aid in my SEO venture or my two web sites, I’ve come to LinkedIn. First of all I’m told that Linkedin is the business person’s version of MySpace. Not having ever done the MySpace thing, it still sort of made sense that I try this so I forged ahead hoping that somehow my trade show displays web sites could somehow profit from this adventure.
Now, having watched and done this for about 6 months, Linkedin appears to be a great networking tool which not only puts you into a network with more recent people you’ve collaborate with, but also networks you with acquaintances of those people. It also shows you who somebody you’ve linked to, linked to as well so you see the whole chain; sort of cool!
Google seems to place a pretty high value on Linkedin with regard to the link that comes from your own page, (if you do it correctly) but after that, because nobody else picks up that same anchor text/URL to your page, and broadcasts it from their page, it pretty much ends there. I’d hoped that it would come to more than that for SEO, but since it hasn’t I’ll let it go for now and hope somebody figures out a way to make it worth chasing in the future. Now, if everyone that you linked to had your link on their page, it would be fantastic. Till then….
